CLC Jobs
CLC Deputy Director
Responsibilities of the Position
As in all small associations, the Deputy Director position at CLC carries a widely varying set of responsibilities and requires a great deal of flexibility in taking on new duties, special projects, and multiple tasks. First and foremost, the Deputy Director will need to be a person who is not only willing to take on, but is highly energized by, an aggressive workload with expectations of highly visible achievements. Exact range of duties will depend on the strengths of the candidate hired, but will include oversight of the administration of the CLC office plus all or several additional areas of responsibility drawn from the following:
- Overseeing the administration of the CLC office – working with the assistance of other staff and service vendors, the Deputy Director will have overall responsibility for the office and personnel administrative operations of the CLC headquarters, will oversee the development of administrative and other policies of the association, and will serve as the primary point of contact for service providers. Less than 25% of the Deputy Director’s time is expected to be spent in carrying out this set of responsibilities, but it is an important one.
- Public Relations, Promotion, and Marketing – the CLC Strategic Plan calls for increasing the awareness of the child life profession within the health care community and among the general public. Since this goal is not a target for substantial financial investment this year, the Deputy Director should bring experience and knowledge to this position in how to get the most exposure possible for modest investment, including how to use social media to call attention to the presence and importance of the work of a profession.
- Partnerships – working with the Executive Director and the Director of Development, the Deputy Director will help lead the way in exploring and initiating interaction with other non-profit organizations that share mutual interests with CLC. The Deputy Director will also serve as the main contact for CLC corporate participants (such as conference exhibitors and marketplace advertisers) to maintain outstanding relations, and will also engage in recruiting additional corporate participants.
- Member Relations – the Deputy Director will serve as chief staff liaison to some of CLC’s very active Committees and Task Forces, and possibly to key segments of the CLC membership, such as academic programs or internship programs (to be determined).
- Projects and Initiatives – the Deputy Director will be called upon to carry out or oversee various special projects and initiatives. Examples of some past projects of this type for the Deputy Director included coordinating a child life salary survey; exploring possible avenues for developing a child life disaster relief program; and creating a legacy giving program.
