Each year, the CLC Annual Conference on Professional Issues offers child life specialists of all ages and career stages the ultimate experience in child life education and networking. In May of 2008, the CLC Conference Planning Committees, Executive Board and staff will continue the tradition of excellence with an innovative conference program dedicated to building community, sharing ideas, and inspiring our members to achieve new heights in their professional development!

Against the backdrop of spectacular San Diego Bay, an anticipated 1,000 child life professionals, educators and students will celebrate the child life community’s unique spirit of Connection, Commitment and Collaboration. Cutting edge pre-conference intensives, seminars and workshops, hospital tour, and even the less formal networking events will offer unparalleled educational opportunities. Don’t forget to make time to enjoy tasty treats as you mingle with your peers and learn about the latest products and services in the ever-popular exhibit hall!

The Emma Plank Keynote Address will be delivered by Sue Bratton, PhD, Director of the Center for Play Therapy and an associate professor at The University of North Texas. Dr. Bratton is a respected lecturer, author, researcher, and clinician with extensive experience in individual and group play therapy, as well as in filial/family play therapy.

Harvey Karp, MD, a pediatrician and child development specialist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UCLA, will speak at the Closing General Session on Sunday. Dr. Karp’s presentation will center on the concept behind his bestselling book and DVD, The Happiest Toddler on the Block, An Innovative Way to Reduce Struggles and Raise More Patient Toddlers, one of the top parenting books in the United States.

The conference will take place at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in San Diego, California. We strongly suggest that you reserve your room as soon as possible, as the CLC room block will fill quickly. When planning your schedule, remember to carve out time for reconnecting with friends and family, and be sure to take advantage of a free evening on Saturday to explore one of San Diego’s world class attractions. Better yet, extend your stay and enjoy a few extra days to soak up the sun, as well as your new-found child life knowledge!
