The following Internship Curriculum Modules were developed by the Internship Task Force to accompany the Essential Curriculum Topics for Child Life Clinical Internships. The modules are based on an in-depth analysis and evaluation of the educational needs and the essential topics that all interns should know before they complete their internship. The Task Force created this flexible, experiential framework to fit the needs of all types of internship settings, keeping in mind the varied learning styles and needs of interns, as well as the different approaches and expectations of supervisors. The modules follow the Child Life Council’s Professional Competencies, (CLC Official Documents, 2002) and address all of the skills defined within the Related Domains and Tasks from the Professional Certification Examination Classification System (CLC, 2008). The Task Force hopes that implementation of the Curriculum Modules will help to create common educational standards across internship sites, and improve the preparation for child life interns to sit for the Child Life Certification Exam. The Curriculum Modules were approved by the Board of Directors in May 2011.

In response to member interest, and at the request of the CLC Executive Board, the Education Committee (now known as the Child Life Education & Training Committee) developed an internal program evaluation tool for child life internship programs. These guidelines for voluntary review were designed to promote and enhance the quality of internship programs by establishing best practices.
It is important to note that these self-review tools are based on the Official Documents of the Child Life Council, Standards for Academic and Clinical Preparation Programs. It is not the intent of Child Life Council to endorse or promote any program that takes part in this review. It is a voluntary process, to be used as an evaluation tool.
