Infants, children, youth, and families benefit from help coping with the stress and uncertainty of illness, injury and treatment. Certified Child Life Specialists provide evidence-based, developmentally appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation and education that reduce fear, anxiety, and pain for infants, children, and youth. Certified Child Life Specialists are educated and trained in the developmental impact of illness and injury. Their role helps improve patient and family care, satisfaction and overall experience.

  • ACLP Statement on the Separation of Children from Families

    The Association of Child Life Professionals joins other professional organizations whose members have expertise in child development, health, and welfare in opposing the traumatic separation of children from their families by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Children who experience separation from family members and relocation to Department of Homeland Security facilities will face serious, potentially long-term psychological trauma.

  • Abstracts Submissions Portal is Now Open for 2019 Child Life Annual Conference

    ACLP is currently accepting abstract submissions for the 2019 Child Life Annual Conference in Chicago. The Annual Conference is designed for and attracts representatives at every level of the child life profession in hospital, physician practice, and academic settings. Abstracts will be accepted through June 30, 2018.

  • 2018 Child Life Job Analysis

    The Child Life Professional Certification Program recently completed a job analysis of the child life profession. In addition to defining the characteristics of an individual who has the capacity to perform competently as a Certified Child Life Specialist, the job analysis produces an exam classification system. This system defines the scope of practice and knowledge and skills needed to perform identified tasks.
