Dawn Klausmeier, CCLS
hosts her own blog, Dose of Play. In her blog, she draws on the knowledge she has gained as a Certified Child Life Specialist and offers insight to help others in the profession. Topics she writes about include: play ideas, coping strategies, medical education, and resources to support children facing illness, injury, and death. She also highlights their important work. Dawn began her career as a child life specialist at The Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital in New York where she also co-facilitated the pre-surgical tour program. After a 3-year tenure in New York, Dawn moved back to her home state of Wisconsin to work at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for 4 years. In addition to her direct patient work, Dawn also published twice, with her first publication “The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital Harnessing the Power of Digital Devices” appearing in Pediatric Nursing
, and her second publication, “The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital Harnessing the Power of Digital Devices to Cope with Pain and Anxiety” appearing in Children’s Hospital Today, Winter 2011.
Following the birth of her second child, Dawn made the difficult decision to take a break from working in order to stay home to be with her children. As a dedicated child life specialist, however, Dawn still remains actively involved in the field, regularly attending child life conferences, and aiding families and medical providers with her blog: https://doseofplay.com
