Dec My Room is all about “Creating A Healing Place” for long term pediatric and young adult patients. Volunteers shop and then decorate a room, with knowledge of the likes and interest of each individual patient. The goal is to change a dull hospital room into a cozier, more personalized hospital room that is filled with things that the patient will find comforting during their stay. This unique and innovative charity was founded by Susan Plank and her daughter Kendall at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston in August 2007. Since then, Dec My Room has grown to over 25 hospitals in 13 cities around the country.
Southeastern Louisiana University offers a 100% online Master of Science degree in Child Life which focuses on a more rigorous study of Child Life theory and application as well as research, program administration, and leadership skills. There are two options: accelerated and traditional. The accelerated option (36 hours) is for professionals and students who have already completed both the practicum and internship.
